The Japan-Italy Society, a cornerstone Japanese association focused on fostering friendship between the two nations, has a rich history dating back to 1940. Over the years, it has been instrumental in promoting cultural, economic, and academic exchanges between Japan and Italy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education recognized the Society as a foundation in 1956, and it was later certified as a public-interest incorporated foundation in 2010. The team of both Italian and Japanese people has consistently upheld the association’s mission.
Italian language courses
Comprehensive, thematic, and professional training courses are offered by experienced instructors to cater to different levels and interests. Latin language and practical training with a simultaneous interpretation booth are also available. For members interested in studying abroad, the association offers a consultancy service.
Italian speech contest
An annual contest that has been running for nearly 30 years, attracting a large number of participants and promoting Italian language proficiency and cultural exchange in Japan.
Japanese language course
The exchanges are not only unilateral from Japan to Italy but the association encourages also the other way round. During summertime, intensive Japanese language and culture courses are organized for young Italian students and they are linked with business visits.
Italian culture seminars and lectures
The Society, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture, hosts events featuring prominent experts in various fields. These are usually related to Italian history, art, culture, politics, economy, and society.
Publications
First published in 1954, the academic journal “Studies in Italian-Japanese Culture” is published annually and serves as a platform for presenting researchers’ findings in various fields.
Members events
AIG organizes fun events and parties for members, including opportunities to explore Italian food, culture and music.
Library Collection
The library collection of the Association consists of approximately 2,000 volumes on Italy available for members.
Overall, through a diverse range of activities such as cultural seminars, social gatherings, speech contests, language courses, and academic publications, the Association keeps nurturing mutual understanding and friendship between Italy and Japan.
