About

Who we are

Dolce Vita Japan is an online magazine written by Italians and Italy enthusiasts making the most of life in Japan. We share the best places to eat, shop, and experience Italian culture for anyone in Japan who’s looking for authentic insights, connections, inspiration—or just a bit of daydreaming about Italy.

What we do

While we love living in Tokyo, sometimes we crave a taste of Italian food, the relaxed Italian lifestyle, and a touch of European culture. Over the years we’ve gathered all kinds of Italian place addresses and experiences in Japan and decided to share them with everybody here. Dolce Vita Japan is a single, trusted source in both English and Japanese for everyone who loves, misses, or is simply curious about the Italian way of life.

Dolce Vita?

The name we have chosen is a bit of a provocation. Inspired by Federico Fellini’s iconic 1960 film, La Dolce Vita, it evokes Italy’s allure but hints at more than just carefree days, unveiling something far more layered. The film reveals a life filled with work, fleeting beauty and the search for a meaning too—more complex than just a “sweet life”.

This magazine strives to capture Italy as it truly is: not the polished postcard version, but a country with all its contrasts and contradictions. People balancing hard work with small joys, discussing life over coffee, and walking past centuries-old churches without a second glance.
At Dolce Vita Japan, you will find this nuanced, authentic Italy beyond the clichés: its beauty, genius, humor, frustrations, and everything in between, with its honest imperfection.
