When I want to eat authentic but casual Italian like at a pizzeria or a trattoria I know I can head to Ebisu and just take my final decision once there, because the options are vast and I know I can eat like back at home in Italy without much effort.

This central neighbourhood is lively and welcoming. Moreover, the strategic Yamanote line and metro station makes it easy to reach from most places.

Ebisu is named after the homonymous God of the Buddhist tradition, protector of fishermen and businesses. It actually abounds in small restaurants of any sort, and this for sure helps the concentration of good Italian ones too.

5 not to miss authentic Italian spots for lunch and dinner in Ebisu

  1. Il Boccalone

Tuscany based, I recommend the pasta dishes, the meat and the risotto served directly from a big wheel of cheese for a tasty and scenographic effect. Staff is very friendly and there are usually some Italians working there too, which is usually a good sign. The name literally means big (-one suffix) mouth (bocca) that in Tuscany dialect indicates a chatty person. In business from 1989 the interior design transports you directly to a “trattoria” of central italy. Open only for dinner, it has a good wine selection. It was open for lunch only briefly during Covid-19 period.

Opening hours: open every day 17:30-23:00(L.O. 22:00)

  1. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele|

In Naples Da Michele is a well known and ancient pizzeria that became famous also around the world thanks to a Julia Roberts scene in the movie “Eat, Pray, Love”. The Tokyo branch is true to the original taste, with a small selection of pizza flavours as many places in Naples, where the classics are margherita and marinara. Dimensions of the pizza are pretty big and the ingredients are the same used in the original shop in Naples. The atmosphere though is quite modern with a high ceiling and underground vibe.

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 11:30-15:00 (L.O. 14:30) and 17:30-21:30 (L.O. 21:00)

  1. La Bisboccia

The first impression I had entering this place was of surprise, because the main room is pretty big, more than what I expected from outside. “Fare bisboccia” (To make/do bisboccia) means “to party” in Italian, and indeed this place is merry and lively, it can host larger group of people respect to other places and it is possible also to organise wedding party or receptions with a capacity of 80 people in the main dining room and 40 people in the salone (medium-sized private room). La Bisboccia offers a catering service too. They suggest trying fiorentina, fiori di zucca and risotto al parmigiano. This location is actually closer to Hiroo station.

  1. Braceria Delizioso Italia

With a woody and warm lighted room this restaurant feels authentic and cozy. There are counter seats that make it feel more modern and Japanese, with its open kitchen and direct access to the chef. Ingredients are very fresh, with a good selection of both fish and meat. Braceria in Italy is a kind of restaurant specialised on grilled food (brace refers ember: small pieces of coal or wood with no flames but still burning that you can use to cook)

Opening hours: Monday to Friday 11:30-15:30 (L.O. 14:30) and 17:30-22:00 (L.O. 21:00)

  1. Trattoria Pizzeria Partenope

Certified “vera pizza napoletana”, Partenope specialises in Neapolitan tastes, first and foremost pizza. Already from the outside you can recognize a Mediterranean design with blue t

iles and lemon decorations and o

live trees. The feeling of being in a village in southern Italy also accompanies you inside thanks to the coloured ceramics and the paintings hanging around.
